For as long as I can remember, the world has been on the brink of destruction. Growing up in the FLDS, every day was a great day for an apocalypse. After so many failed predictions and prophecies of doom, I realized the only thing I was living for was to try and escape death.
At some point in time, people’s fear of death leads them to a fear of life. I don’t believe we were put here just to survive. I believe human beings are here to create and to thrive.
It takes more courage to live for your cause, rather than be frozen in fear, ready to die to prove your faith. Even people outside of situations like the FLDS have chosen to opt into silly belief systems where doom lurks right around the corner.
We all have a decision to make about what we choose to believe. I like to remember what Stephen King wrote in his novel, The Shawshank Redemption, “Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.”
I choose to hope.
Get busy living or get busy dying.
